Fall 2012

Autumn in Cape May is like no other time of the year. It is still warm enough to go to the beach and enjoy the sun, but cool enough to open up the windows and enjoy the fresh ocean breeze. Visitors and locals alike enjoy the more leisurely pace and pass the time visiting our many wineries and a few haunts that are so very much Cape May. Our Fall issue includes a feature by physic medium and ghost writer Craig McManus. A Ghostly Walk through Cape May is a great guide to a few of Craig’s favorite spooky places. And local historian Jim Campbell takes us on another kind of other-worldly tour in Where the Dead Sleep. Jim traces our past through the tombstones and gravesites of our most historical cemeteries, among them Cold Spring Presbyterian Cemetery, established in 1714.

History buffs will also be pleased to read part two of Bob Elwell’s series on The Windsor Hotel: One of Cape May’s Queens. In the Fall issue, Bob recalls the downfall of this Grande Dame, which succumbed to fire in 1979. And Karen Fox pays Cape May summer resident Myles Martel, President Ronald Reagan’s debate coach for the 1980 presidential election a visit in her featureThe Collector. Myles has assembled an impressive collection of presidential signatures. How he managed this feat of excellence is a fascinating read.

Of course, all our regulars are on board from Persnickety Chef, who obsesses about soup, to Tommy Raniszewski who interviews 91½ year old Marvin Hume of Sunset Beach Gift Shops and the Sunset Flag Ceremony fame.
